The Co-operative
Movement in BH has long tradition. The first trade institution on
co-operative basis was founded in 1888 in Derventa, and the first
housing co-operative in 1897 in Sarajevo. The first peasant co-operative
SOJ was formed on October 16, 1904 in Orasje.
The Main
Association of Agriculture co-operatives NRBiH was formed in Sarajevo in
1946, later on it changed its name to the Main Co-operative Association
of NRBiH.
When the Law on
organisation of unified Chambers of commerce in 1962 was introduced, the
Main Co-operative Association of NRBiH disappeared formally and legally,
whereas the Chamber of commerce of the Republic becomes a legal
successor of the Association and takes over all its property, rights and
obligations.
Based on the
iniciative of co-operatives and their workers, the Co-operative
Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina was formed in Sarajevo, Misirbina
13/III in the premises of the Chamber of Commerce of Bosnia and
Herzegovina in 1977.
War has not
stopped the work of the Co-operative Association of Bosnia and
Herzegovina, so it became a member of ICA, International Co-operative
Alliance in 1996.
Based on the
contract on reorganisation and transformation of the Co-operative
Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Entity Unions aproved the legal
continuation and succession to this Association on August 31, 2000. The
General Law on Co-operatives in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Jully 1, 2003)
affirmed the existence of the Co-operative Association of Bosnia and
Herzegovina.
The Co-operative
Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina is a proffesional and business
organization that gathers all kinds of co-operatives as its members.
Membership in the Co-operative Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina is
